January is the start to a new year and can be the time to set new goals and make resolutions for the months ahead. However, making positive achievable goals is the direction to take for 2020.
Now is the time to decide to make a difference. It may be in a small way to start with but could increase over the year. This difference can be to both yourself, your well-being and self-worth, and to others. Let’s make resolutions to stick to.
Everyone has some free time in their week or month. It may be just a couple of hours, but this can make a great difference. As well as having an impact to a charity, such as ours, the selfless actions of volunteering does make individuals feel positive and helpful. It can help to reduce stress, maintain mental stimulation and combat depression. Often volunteering brings together wonderfully like-minded people who then become friends and build ties between themselves and their local community. If you have recently moved to the area, volunteering is a great way to meet people and make new friends. Another positive attribute to volunteering is that it is a wonderful addition to your CV, showing your character and generous nature.
Volunteering for a charity can take many different forms. Help is appreciated across all levels of running the charity and assisting in any way, however big or small. People should highlight their skills and strengths when offering to help. Are you great at organising, budgeting, speaking to people, making things, raising money? Do you work somewhere where your products or services could support a local charity? Do you work in a printer and could offer support with posters, banners or flyers? Do you work in the media and could help with spreading the word about the charity and its fundraising endeavours? Could the BEEP Fund be your chosen charity for 2020?
There may be roles in organising and attending events, and with helping existing volunteers who would appreciate additional ideas of where to garner support for the BEEP Fund.
Fundraising has wide parameters. Our supporters have varied from those who have previously donated their pocket money to others who have signed up for a physical challenge, like a marathon or skydive, and received matched funding of their sponsorship from their employers.
We have volunteers who assist us for a couple of hours a month and then we have our volunteer team of Doctors who are on-call 24/7. Whatever time, energy and skills you have and can spare, we will be extremely grateful as this enables the BEEP Fund to grow and be able to help more individuals when they need it most.
We, as humans, are designed to give to others and the more we do this, the happier it makes us feel. Volunteering sounds like the ideal resolution to make – and keep – for the year ahead.
